So, for all intents and purposes, I am a new FFXIV player, despite having played it off and on since ARR's release, so I'm experiencing the story for the first time since I got past level 20-ish. This story took a sad turn and I'm sad about a damn plant creature.

Yeah like right now I have like 3 or 4 buttons that kinda do the same things (lancer) lol
You will get more buttons than you can shake a stick at. It ramps up quite a bit.

Dangit, maybe I'll have to sub again and try to get past the 30 hump. I've been hearing once you get past that it's basically the best mmo on the market right now

Yup. The only real downside is its extreme linearity, but the story is so good for the most part that it makes up for that lack of story freedom.
