How do you know they were 'desperate' and hungry? How do you know they were stealing that in order to resell it for food?
If they really were that desperate, then why don't they simply steal from those who stole food instead of going through the process if finding someone that buys their stoles products? I mean I doubt someone that "desperate" and hungry can afford any reliable way to keep safe.
