  3. Added to this: there is an unescapable difficulty when it comes to disentangle logistics and organizational problems due to issues such as poor infrastructure, weak bureaucratic capacities etc from actual fraud 4/

  4. EU observers on the ground are usually very professional. But when an organization of states like the EU or the AU observes the elections, there might be pressures to edulcorate their findings in the published statement. Prioritizing stability over election quality 3/

Truly exciting to be here on a day in which the judiciary asserts its independence and follows the Kenyan Supreme Court in say that bad quality elections should not stand. The weight of criticism makes it clear an appeal from the government would be inappropriate

Important article for those navigating multiple bureaucracies to do fieldwork - also super helpful to find out about the Advancing Conflict Research (ARC) initiative!

Again: while our eyes are focused on Brexit, Trump is trying to ban immigration from Nigeria (!!), Eritrea (whose emigrants are often refugees) and two other countries...

In 2019, peace ops have shifted from large, multidimensional, “conflict management” ops due to political & budgetary pressures & structural reforms...decreasing personnel deployed from 107,800 in 2015 to 83,669 via

Just looking at this for my class on dependency and structural adjustment in the Global South. Colleagues more versed than me in economics, do you find the methodology convincing?

Anche il nostro Salvini non capisce il concetto di "transizione"... fino alla fine dell'anno l'UK continua a applicare tutta la legislazione UE!

Great article highlighting how risk assessments impact our research in terms of budgets, methods, field work and the perpetuation of North-South divides.

Quite an interesting article from & ! Risk assessments often preclude young researchers from developing data sets that may be useful in fully grasping the full extent of conflict dynamics in regions considered "high risk".
