Empires will often fall without a replacement. Examples include the Western Roman and Austro-Hungarian Empires.

I point out, there are no viable replacements, other powers keep the US propped up because they know any collapse means another worldwide depression.

They do not and cannot keep USA propped up. Those countries are simply playing along as long as things sorta work.

That is the last situation I propose in the article. That's basically the default if there is no other cataclysm, catalyst, black swan first.
