Take @RichardBSpencer's dream of uniting with Russia, for example. It's even harder to plausibly operationalize from here to there. We might be able to visualize such a world and two steps from it, but there's a million in between now and then.

For most of history the Middle East has been dominated by empires from Anatolia, Egypt, or Iran. The US can't change that. Their Sunni Arab alliance will just be a liability that like Iraq will cost far more than it's worth.

at least accidentally right that it would be easier to ally with Iran before Russia (Brahmin Indians have always been on our side and always will be). I wonder if Richard even realizes it was Russia that pushed America out of Iran, less so the Iranians themselves.

Sure, but even in such a maneuver, it must be operationalized as a maneuver, and at present, it's very difficult to see the marginal incentive to cease taking sides with Arabs against Persians as the West in the Near East.
