Reading Bryan Caplan's The Case Against Education. Even for someone who needs little convincing (like me), it's eye-opening. For example, virtually no one remembers the vast majority of what they learned in school.

The only useful thing schools teach for the vast majority of people is reading and basic math. The rest - history, geography, social studies, biology, etc - is quickly forgotten.

Even among STEM college grads, subjects they spent years on are forgotten if not used on the job. I took a year of college calculus, for example, and I can barely remember a thing.
