Some responses to the cloud seeding story concerned about putting something in our atmosphere that modifies wx…for about 150 years we have been replacing wild grass w/asphalt(albedo/moisture change), emitting greenhouse gas emissions (2021 was 6% > 2020)

Here’s the full story on cloud seeding — let’s just say it’s not your mother’s weather modification!

The Colorado River and its critical reservoirs, Lake Mead and Lake Powell, have seen historic lows but "cloud seeding" could help give Mother Nature a boost. @ginger_zee has more on the technique, which is in use among 10 Western states.

Thank you! And yes it’s been around since the 1940s but huge advances in research and application the last few years (it’s gotten cheaper with ground seeding being done remotely).

The cloud seeding story was really interesting @Ginger_Zee I didn’t know such a thing existed.

Cloud seeding isn’t new… but thanks to the aridification of the southwest, states like AZ/CA that grow so much of our food are paying companies to make it snow more than it naturally would. North American Weather Consultants tells us they are making 3-15% more snowpack. See the… Show more

When I went to college for meteorology, cloud seeding was “inefficient & expensive.” That is NOT the case today. 42 projects in 10 states w/ hundreds of ground based cloud seeders sending silver iodide into storms to make them snow more than they naturally would. More on  Show more

You can’t call it a bayou any longer because you have to have land to make it a bayou. And the land is gone. Josh Ellender of Ellender Charters has worked these waters for his entire life and they change drastically every season. Hope you caught my story earlier on to see… Show more

Got to catch up with @Ginger_Zee working on the relocation (and now migration) of the residents of Isle de Jean due to coastal erosion, land subsidence and sea level rise. Ginger’s the real deal & a genuinely warm person! #LAwx

The wetlands of Louisiana are losing land rapidly — it’s not just sea level rise. Oil & gas have dug more than 10,000 canals that allowed salt water to intrude. Levees built years ago blocked natural sediment from adding to the islands. Also, the land is sinking. You’ll meet the… Show more

Certainly unusual/extreme. The secret sauce why this event was a 1/1000 year event could be studied for years. The basics were Near-record atmospheric moisture Slow moving warm front Storm motion caused “training”, where storms moved as though on a train track over same locations

Please explained for us amateurs meteorologist what this was? Did he have a front that stalled over us and then came back north as a warm front? I thought this to be unusual.

Another positive (and by positive I mean negative) drought monitor update!

MAJOR GAINS with the latest drought monitor this morning. Today only 8% of the state is in a drought, down from 25% last week and down from an incredible 99% of the state on October 1st. A lot of this due to our record snow pack and a very wet March across California
