perhaps the better metaphor for infinite canvases is “floors”, rather than “desks”
while the desk is contained and focused, the floor is spread and chaotic (more so than the desk)
it gives space for spill-over, and supplements the space the desk affords

Apparently, my suppression-by-algorithm may have something to do with the type of content I post: it's not polemical, it doesn't ask questions, and it rarely includes topical terms.
There's enough polemic on Twitter, but I'll see what I can do about upping the other two...

Hi! I'm looking for (remote) work (I'm in the Netherlands), be it consulting or something more permanent. Does anyone know of interesting ~principal-engineer-level work for someone very capable with a slightly unusual career path?

Delighted to release the third edition of Programming Languages: Application and Interpretation (PLAI). A complete rewrite based on many years of research and experience. Because that research is still ramping up, this is just the start of many changes.

I attended the first one of this series. Young grasshoppers, you should know that functional programming has been in the "promising" category since before many of you were born and probably will be until your own grandchildren are born as well.

Smalltalk has a remarkable method named #become: that allows you to modify all pointers to a given object to point to a different object!
gbracha.blogspot.com/2009/07/miracl
This goes even further than updating instances when a class changes, it's changing instance references.
