Notice how the score passes the baton to the sound design in this scene. Well orchestrated pauses & rhythm in the sound effects, create their own musicality, resulting in an extremely effective moment

Sound friends, for an upcoming film project I’m looking for a field recordist in Alabama or someone who has recorded there, specifically in Pell City and birds, forests and nature in the area.

Today is one of those days that I feel like I’m not doing any decent sound design, but I keep throwing different things at it. Eventually it started taking shape & doesn’t sound too bad after all

This is an excellent thread & it absolutely applies to sound design. It took me years to learn to not be defensive when getting criticism. Also when I give feedback I always start with a compliment about a specific detail. It puts the recipient at ease

We lost a true legend of sound in cinema with the passing of Alan Murray. Multiple academy awards and nominations, a tireless dedication to the importance of sound in cinema and a commanding presence with a dry wit, Alan made us all lucky to be considered friends and colleagues.

We finally experienced MANK, & then I checked out this great interview. It’s nice to hear this quote from Ren, “When you get into the world of reverb, it can be a confusing place”. He’s one of the smartest people in & he has to overcome obstacles like the rest of us
