The technical side of getting rid of guns is easy. It's the political and social side that's hard
The first few have been managed extremely well in Aus and the UK, violent crime has mostly decreased - this is not surprising, guns are rarely used defensively - and I find the idea that civilians armed with cheap small arms would provide increased 'security' a bit weird

I assert Australia is an invalid example for reasons I already stated. UK has a horrible knife & acid crime problem.

The homicide rate in the UK is roughly 1/5th of the US. Australia is less than half

There was a Florida State study that concluded firearms were used for self defense 2.5 million times annually. We could certainly argue how rare defensive uses of firearms are based on that statistic.
-
I've read that study. It was amazing nonsense. They used self-reported gun defense statistics from a small group of fervent gun owners and extrapolated that number to a meaningless yearly figure

Thanks effectiveness of guerilla warfare is well documented. Some examples: taliban resistance against the Soviets and US, Warsaw ghetto resistance against the Nazis, Palestinians vs. Israel. Southern guerillas in the civil war were only stopped after complete annihilation.

There are unconfirmed reports that during WWII General Yamomoto declined a mainland US invasion due to the threat of civilian arms.
