Restricting access to guns makes fewer people die. This is an uncontentious fact

The technical side of getting rid of guns is easy. It's the political and social side that's hard

Have a look at the National Firearms Agreement passed in Australia to get an idea. It's mostly about passing fairly commonsense licensing regulations and offering amnesty to gun owners in the form of cash payments

Specifically about Australia, their technical aspects may have been much less complex since there were ~3million firearms in circulation (US had upwards of 300 million) with surely a much smaller percentage of them being the newly prohibited arms.

Oh absolutely. I'm oversimplifying for the sake of brevity - although perhaps "simple" would be a better word to use than "easy". The laws and application are simple, it doesn't mean it won't take time and effort to implement

In this situation I don't think technical and cultural can be separated. I and millions others in the US believe it is our patriotic duty to resist any sort of Australian style confiscation or prohibition.

Furthermore on he topic of technicals, firearms are not at all difficult to craft in a machine shop or 3d printer. Criminals have additionally shown the ease of purchasing black market weaponry, even in places like France where weapons are heavily restricted.

It is ~possible~ to craft very bad guns in a machine shop or 3d printer. Fortunately, these firearms are as likely to kill the maker as anyone else. This is also why restricting ammunition - which is much harder to manufacture well - is a part of all good gun legislation
