Isn't it more likely that these rates are driven by cultural factors more than the ability of certain weaponry? For example l, I can purchase any amount of machetes I can afford without any restriction, yet we have never had a machete genocide here.

Culture plays an important role, but it's also pretty self-evident that many crimes/suicides committed with guns are simply impossible with machetes

I fully agree that this is a complex issue, but your original statement was somewhat binary on this. It may be that some type of restriction causes fewer people to die, but I wouldn't call this an uncontentious fact. It also does not address the unintended consequences.
