Are you similarly surprised when people endorse the Virta Health ketogenic diet study, sponsored by Virta Health? I don't see the problem with either unless specific flaws in a study can be identified.

And the Virta Health study, in particular, had numerous flaws that may have introduced bias into the results

The VIRTA study should be considered a program evaluation or a Phase 1 trial, not the definitive proof that ketogenic diet is best for T2D. The low carbers see problems only in studies of low fat diets. #bias

Let s hope they do a proper Phase 2 trial, but I doubt it. In their minds, they know the answer already, and they just want to make money

Why doing a trial that may show other diets work as well or better than keto? Better not to help the competitors

Absolutely. Why would they do another study when they've already captured 45 mil in funding?

Do you have an explanation in the statistically significant changes in the lipids that reduced the CV risk profile? In any event if the cost saving in drugs pays for the support, its a positive outcome. Lets applaud good cost effective #outcomes?

I know of 6 other trials of diabetes remission with similar-or better- results than Virta using non-ketogenic diets. At least one was less than half the cost. Why would we choose Virta over another method?

Perhaps you could provide some links to them, as 94% off insulin is pretty standout. You also continue to ignore the lipid effects.

94% was for "reduce or eliminate" insulin. From the study, it appears that 13% got off insulin entirely. And as I've said, there's nothing special about the lipid changes, you see similar results in either of the two trials I've linked before

Our regular hospital diabetes clinic reduces insulin in about 50% of patients so I'm not surprised at all by their sales figure there

Actually, given that insulin reduction is a reasonably common element of diabetes management, putting that 94% figure up there front and centre seems wildly misleading by Virta
