How are midwives different to nurses?

My understanding (could be wrong) is that midwives are essentially specialist nurses who've done extensive extra training. Is that right?

Can be. I teach in a B. Mid course. There are a number of 4 year combined nursing/midwifery courses on offer in this city. Post grad Mid is a workplace based course here now...

Lol thanks for your contribution Hank. The best of our midwives don’t have nursing training either. This makes them specialists in their field. Neither a health scare nor a health threat.
