“Diabetes Can’t Be Cured With Low-Carb Diets” by @GidMK https://medium.com/@gidmk/diabetes-cant-be-cured-with-low-carb-diets-8b645c935373 … (Cure is wrong word, though definitely there are those with it who wholly control it with lifestyle - but that's not the point of this piece and it's one you should read)

Did you read the piece? It is unfair and misrepresents the study. @davidludwigmdhttps://medium.com/@davidludwigmd/as-senior-author-of-the-study-id-like-to-correct-a-few-inaccuracies-in-your-post-75743eef4407 …

Thx, Carrie. I wrote that response on Medium to correct the misrepresentations. I hope the debate can remain factual.

I replied on Medium. I was perhaps glib in my original language - my major disagreement is not with the study itself, but with the media coverage that has exploded around it

Your piece is factually inaccurate & harmful to the T1 community. If you or your child lived for a day with the struggles of Type 1 you would realize what a ray of hope publicity for this treatment strategy is. More studies YES. 1000s doing already w/o help from healthcare team.

@davidludwigmd covered it very well in his response. Your title however is particularly problematic. A cure was never suggested & you making light of it at the expense of the T1 community to make your point is tone deaf.

There were any number of news pieces that suggested very strongly that a cure had been demonstrated. As to offense, I certainly didn't mean to poke fun at people with diabetes. I did also respond to @davidludwigmd on Medium

There will always be an issue with misinterpretation in the media. But let’s not fight misinformation with more misinformation. An honest scholarly debate is welcome and needed, as no study in nutrition can ever be the final word.

Your radar is up for these headlines - a skewed reality so-to-speak. Epi is the epitome of “ivory tower” which is fine if it’s recognized and used as such - one part of the evidence in “EBP” Tech has changed the way we can “science”...still a way to go...

The patient-HP exchange is where the richest source of data (evidence) is happening. “Practice-generated evidence” yes the one on one, trumps RCTs too (for food-health interventions). “Science” has changed. And it’s better.

You’d benefit by reading Dr. Bernstein’s ‘Diabetes Solution’. We’re eating nutrient-rich meat or vegan VLCD-very low carb diets, not LCHF-low carb high fat. Quoting the study correctly is important. The media picked up on this study because social media did #T1D
