To be fair, the lengthy quote by a dietitian buried at the bottom of the article is not so badpic.twitter.com/ZIo77YkM02

But this is, of course, not what most people would read. And the video of Pete being wrong is right up there front and centre

I think you should change your twitter handle to "Heath Establishment" as its pretty obvious the food environment is way off tract and guidelines can be wrong. There is plenty of high quality evidence that this is the case, accessible to Nerds

Here's a brief summary of the Australian dietary guidelines. Which point specifically do you object to/think is not evidence-based?pic.twitter.com/ZSxbjCHPCr

Well for a start there is no evidence that grains are healthy in Cochrane review and full fat milk outperforms low fat milk in trials.

You're thinking too specifically. Take a step back: what do you think the average person is currently eating? How might those recommendations change their eating habits?

Probably also worth noting that the Cochrane reviews didn't find "no evidence that grains are healthy", they found that the epidemiological evidence is currently too weak to draw definitive conclusions wrt cardiovascular and diabetes outcomespic.twitter.com/DzDafGYIhR

Do you think that this level of (lack of) evidence for whole grains is good enough to base firm population wide guidelines on and attack people who suggest avoiding grains? I don't.

I think there's very strong evidence that increasing dietary fibre is associated with better outcomes, whether this comes from grains or vegetables is a matter of convenience and price

I would be interested in that conclusive evidence for fibre, but even accepting that at face value there is no basis to condemn diets that eliminate grains. That is unscientific and that is what has been done here.

Let me put it this way: if Pete Evans' only criticism was that diets could be grain-free and still be healthy, I'd say he's probably oversimplifying but mostly right. That's in no way his position

Ok, so this attack was baseless, but there must be something else wrong and its sure to be evidence based? More nerd like activity is required, conventional wisdom wrt diet is failing, time to question assumptions surely?
