I'll just slip in too....the food industry (and the DAA) love the "Pete Evanzes" bc it takes our focus to everywhere except the real problem - food industry power over policy, practice, evidence - and for the DAA...

..."Pete is the reason dietitians are losing trust"...really? If "we" were the go-to, smashing these stats for food-related chronic disease, there'd be no space for a "Pete"...our inaction has likely built the platform for others to "get on with the job"

Last thing...the publisher was "instructed by lawyers from the DAA and others" to pull the publication of the book. I am not saying this action was "right or wrong" just that there was "power" at play here too. Shutting down "Pete Evans" will not budge our food-health stats.

Oh god no, of course not. It'll just make me happy for half an hour. If we want to actually shift diabetes rates, we have to invest a huge amount of money in urban design, healthy lived environments, education etc etc etc

Ah! Whereas, I've argued we can kick these stats within current resources by simply "doing different".

Honestly, I'd be very surprised. It's not necessarily that "doing different" is more expensive, but it often costs a lot to shift attitudes and culture

Of course! So every minute we spend on "red herrings" is time wasted. "What to do" is sitting there in the literature...and was on our tv screens on Monday night via

...the HSR - compromised by food industry, the ADG compromised by food industry, research compromised....policy decisions compromised.... is a "sugar tax" another red herring?

I would argue no, it's quite well supported by international evidence and whilst certainly not a 'cure' for obesity, will pave the way - and help fund - further prevention efforts

Agree....but what is stopping it? Food industry/vested interests...so what I am arguing is - legislate to remove corporate interests from the policy cycle....and we may have a chance at "healthy people, healthy nations"

I have no issue whatsoever with barring corporate interests from dictating policy

Great! So write about that - "what should a policy cycle look like in a civil society - how far or close are we from this"? "are our professional institutions, our public policy (ADG) free of corporate influence.."?
