But this is, of course, not what most people would read. And the video of Pete being wrong is right up there front and centre

I think you should change your twitter handle to "Heath Establishment" as its pretty obvious the food environment is way off tract and guidelines can be wrong. There is plenty of high quality evidence that this is the case, accessible to Nerds

Here's a brief summary of the Australian dietary guidelines. Which point specifically do you object to/think is not evidence-based?pic.twitter.com/ZSxbjCHPCr

Well for a start there is no evidence that grains are healthy in Cochrane review and full fat milk outperforms low fat milk in trials.

You're thinking too specifically. Take a step back: what do you think the average person is currently eating? How might those recommendations change their eating habits?

We have had guidelines for a long time and population health is worse. You have to be specific in each of the recommendations, because there is evidence they are wrong and each error adds to the problem, like the 700% increase in T2D since 1958

Population health is absolutely NOT getting worse, particularly since the 50s. We are certainly shifting from a model of infectious to chronic disease (i.e. diabetes increasing), but that's not necessarily ~worse~, just different

Are you suggesting our diet is so bad that even the microbes don't find us attractive? Just like ants aren't attracted to margarine.

Its a logical conclusion from your logic that the chronic disease is not an issue because infectious disease deaths have reduced. If the dietary changes are not responsible for the decline in infectious disease then we still have a problem!

That's definitely not what I said, nor implied, nor even vaguely suggested
