There are obviously differences. But the major recommendations have barely shifted: lots of healthy carbs, as much veg as possible, a moderate amount of meat and dairy, a small amount of fat and as little sugar as possible
Obviously people don't "die from drinking olive oil". But eating a high fat diet can be a contributing factor to serious heart disease and avoiding high levels of fat is one good way to lose weight, so limiting your intake of fats generally isn't a bad idea
