Scientific referencing is such a weird and outdated system It often feels like just a mammoth waste of timepic.twitter.com/7Xr7bDNki5
The whole idea is that you are going to try and find these documents in a library. You need issue numbers, page references, because you're going to track down physical copies of things
If you don't have the EXACT details of your reference, your librarian is going to be lost But when was the last time you went to a librarian for a reference?
I just went through and updated a variety of things in a reference list. You know how I found all the information on the studies (issue numbers, volumes, page references etc)? I Googled the study namespic.twitter.com/zDFZBJmn5j
Seriously. Googling study names gets you the right one 99% of the time and takes seconds. Even better if you've got the DOI
Compare this to the hours it takes to track down studies if you're looking on a journal website, or god forbid in the physical journal itself
Bottom line: referencing is pretty broken. Putting study names and DOIs makes more sense these days than the long and arduous list of details most referencing systems ask for
I agree and the formatting that changes from journal to journal, put this in italics, no not that! This! Put this in bold. Why is that in bold? ARGH! Feeling your pain
