Having read up on #cricketgate and why it's so bad that the dude rubbed some tape on his balls, I have a scientific question:
Is there any evidence that this 'tampering' does anything?

well yes, if in fact he did actually scuff ball, The scuff up one side & shine the other, shiny side has less resistance, ball swings to shiny side.

yes, really well. It will also suff up through normal play, & it is legal to shine one side. the reason to introduce take or sandpaper or whatever, is to scuff up more, to make it swing earlier, ie, with less use
