Exactly what it says. The vast majority of intersex conditions occur in either a phenotypic male or phenotypic female. ‘Mixed gender characteristics’ seems an inaccurate confusion of gender/sex and a misunderstanding of intersex conditions generally.
What I'm arguing is that insofar as there are gender phenotypes, intersex people by definition comform to neither a 'male' nor 'female' one

So we have different lines about what constitutes ‘male’ and ‘female’. Do you think a KS male is not male? Do you think an XO female (Turner) is not female? Do you think something like hypospadias is intersex? Are males with gynocomastia intersex?

That previous sounds like I’m judge and jury on male/female - unintentional. I was chatting here with a woman labelled intersex because she has a large clitoris and a wonky uterus. I think the definition of intersex is being stretched and coopted for political gain, perhaps.
