A lot of the temporary accommodation available through Link2Home is at cheap motels in Western Sydney which can't fill beds other ways. This changes when there is a big concert in town and the motels fill up with concertgoers from outside Sydney.

This leads to more homeless people sleeping rough. It also makes it hard for hospitals to discharge patients who are relying on Link2Home accommodation when they leave, so they may need to stay in hospital for a few more days even if they're better.

The further knock on effect is that this can lead to fewer empty beds, particularly mental health beds, available for people needing admission to hospital, which means patients waiting a long, long, long time in ED or being shuffled between hospitals.

Replying to @pryorlisa
I wonder if another knock-on effect is more people being held on remand/staying in jail as the availability of cheap accommodation is reduced

Prisons are basically hospitals with worse facilities and less leeway on discharge times
