It isn't true to say Australia hasn't had a mass shooting since 1996. As @ninafunnell has previously pointed out, Geoff Hunt shot and murdered his family in 2015. There were four fatalities (I don't count the murderer) which classifies it as a mass shooting. Don't erase them.

Interesting. But if comparing to the US, their definition is 4 fatalities not including the shooter. So side by side it should be considered a mass shooting.

Yeh it's all a bit of a headache. I don't think the FBI definition is even an officially accepted thing, because from what I understand mass shootings aren't officially tracked. Most of the figures come from private efforts like everytown
