I want to read the newest paper about asparagus. I've just checked out the sciencedaily article, which has a handy link right there at the bottom 4/pic.twitter.com/g7TbtKHiBw

I click on this link, but because I'm not logged in through one of the proxies, it takes me to a locked journal page with an abstract 5/pic.twitter.com/s98uM3f5Cl
This is annoying. However, I persevere. I log into Google scholar through several tedious proxy screens which gives me this lovely page 6/pic.twitter.com/yIDiGAXmNA
Then I click on that lovely Uni of Sydney link to the right and...nothing. A blank white page 7/pic.twitter.com/gUQu3jdexL
I ~could~ call the library, restart the computer etc etc. Instead, I copy+paste the DOI into sci-hub and seconds later... 8/pic.twitter.com/aHuQDqGBiL
It literally takes me 5 seconds to go from no paper to a full PDF. As easy as that 9/
And the point of all this is...THIS IS NOT AN ACCESS ISSUE 10/
Seriously. I have ~all~ of the access. The last time I couldn't get a paper with my university(s) access, it was so hopelessly obscure that I didn't even really know what it was about 11/
But it might take me 15-20 minutes to actually get to the paper, through dozens of annoying proxy logins. It's an annoying waste of time 12/
Whereas sci-hub gets me the paper in seconds. SECONDS. The number of hours I wasted as an undergrad trying to find papers...the mind boggles 13/
Anyway, this has turned from a short thought into a long thread. Take-home message: use sci-hub. Academic publishing online is broken, it'll save you enormous amounts of time 14/
If you're taking credit for introducing me to sci-hub, you can shove it up your arse my undergrad psychology professor told me about it in 1st year. I just ignored him until you told me about it in much funnier words.
