Ok, so, everyone is terrified of an energy drink study that apparently shows them to be basically the worst thing ever

Guess what? No one, and I mean not a single article I can find, mentions a key part of this research

Those drinking energy drinks reported more adverse outcomes than those drinking coffee, yes. Guess what they also reported? It has to do with things that are commonly consumed with energy drinks...

Yep. You guessed it. BOOZE. Those who drank energy drinks were 8x more likely to be boozing it up at the same timepic.twitter.com/dDgfkachDh

I mean, it's possible that the energy drinks are bad in and of themselves, but come on. If they didn't control for alcohol consumption - and they didn't, I checked - then the results are pretty meaningless

        Anyway, here's the study. At least it's open-access, I guess? http://cmajopen.ca/content/6/1/E19.full …

It's just...I understand the urge to ban energy drinks. They are sludge that is terrible for our health. But I can't see any reason to think that they're worse than any other sugary drink really

Look, fair enough. If we're talking young child poisoning I can certainly see an enhanced risk. But the recent panic is over 12-24 year olds so I don't know if the same issues would apply

(There's meant to be a question mark at the end of this it was meant to be a question)
