Don’t call my book a ‘celeb diet’ – it’s a lifestyle medicine plan http://specc.ie/2BFG8NE via @DrAseemMalhotra @GidMK @DavidJohnsRD

1/ Stand by what i said last week. Pointless debate over coconut in coffee (an example from the press interviews). Neither side comes off well.https://twitter.com/DavidJohnsRD/status/939104943172210688 …

2/ They agree on more than disagree so not sure needs to be Top5 BUT the press promo statements for the book confused reading w research and often extrapolated beyond the data.

3/ Regardless of if a lifestyle plan or diet book (who cares!), if more interested in policy change than book sales then opportunity cost in writing is a shame. Culd have been put into a proper strategic plan w stakeholder engagement, a def of & route map to 'success'.

In theory, yes, well researched policy analysis with CEA of all options....but it simply wouldn’t get traction unless the public wanted it too, or health minister has a real life experience and wants to “do something”. In Australia last week, Kellogg’s made our health policy.

Definitely a spectrum of good & bad ways to make policy. Agree u need pubic buy-in when it comes to general practice but in UK you need CCGs & LA buy-in first to put the right strategic actions in place to enable change. Either way, neither starts w a book.

Aus is virtually the same. Need LHD and PHN buy-in for strategy, and need local GPs/allied health to implement effectively. Complex systems make for complex solutions - but books are simple!

Good pick-ups Mr Nerd! Book easy “relative” to doing public health, Defs. One involves far less real-life human variation.

Haha yeh. And the public health books that people have written tend to be long, wordy, and come with the proviso "There's way more to say but this is just a book"

Even the how-to-do policy analysis texts say “here’s some ideas but we all know policy is borne from emotion” Gun control, folate fortification, cig-pack pics I do have a fave book tho - A policy cycle (Australian) I think glynn & Davis
