It's very irritating because that's how this study was reported everywhere and you're right it's not as simple as do or don't get one

And there IS other research to support the idea that, overall, epidurals prolong labor. (Haven't dug in but that's what google says.)

I think the breakdown here is that non-OBs don't know what "second stage" means. Maybe early labor? Active labor? (nope it's PUSHING)
