On the one hand, the US is much better at recording maternal death than a lot of places. this accounts for a significant % of the high rate

On the other, it's unlikely to account for all of it, and the US does worse on virtually ever other indicator anyway

So basically the media is wrong when it screams about "10x higher risk of maternal death" but the US is still not great at maternal health
