Tenure is not, and has never been, a license to kill or get-out-of-jail-free card. Tenure means you can't be fired WITHOUT CAUSE.

Universities/depts/funders need to remember what tenure is & isn't. The tools work fine when people & institutions choose to use them.

Strikes me that the problem here isn't tenure but a lack of moral courage on the part of people at UW who should've enforced the rules.

...but there is also a huge issue with monetary conflicts of interest when considering powerful professors who are abusing their power
