additionally, this study didn't examine CVD - instead a comprehensive measure of health which would be *expected* to reflect SES.

Very true, but that's kinda the point. It's a bit spurious to say that alcohol is 'healthy' based on one study of CVD health

I'd say that the SES scale they used was fairly comprehensive.
