Reporting on the pill and depression is itself depressing; relative risk is everywhere, but no one has reported the absolute risk increase

Now any increase in depression is cause for concern, but it doesn't sound so shocking when it's reported as a .5% increase.

Not a single article I can find has mentioned that the increase in hospitalizations was only .02%, again concerning but hardly calamitous

Instead you see headlines like "Taking pill causes depression" or "The pill is linked to depression" that talk about DOUBLE the risk.

Not that any of this is unusual for science reporting, but it's still a poor representation of the real risk of taking the pill.
