I've known a few people now who've worked at credit card customer service call centers. Independently, all of them have told me similar +
stories about employees who make the mistake of looking up the account information of various celebrities. I have absolutely no idea how +
they detect abuse of these systems, but the stories I've heard have consistently been along the lines of security showing up to escort them+
out within an hour or so, at most, of the illicit access. Now, while flagging, investigating, and terminating people in these call centers +
is *vastly* simpler a problem than police abuse of access to data, it's still not hard to look at the few hundred people fired by PDs and +
imagine that there's a lot of this sort of thing that doesn't get meaningfully punished. And how many of those terminations are sworn +
I think a big part of the issue is the systems used for access; I know in the hospitals where I work it's an effort to
Conduct a serious audit simply because the system that is used to access patient data is old and clunky.
oh, yeah — there's a lot of work out there looking at the costs associated with medical record keeping, and I know I've sat in a my +
fair share of presentations about how much errors related to same cost.
