How many people took Chantix?

I once looked for that number, but didn't find it. There was a number for prescriptions (huge), but this contained repeats.

If in the millions, given the suicide rate, 650 suicides is exactly what you'd expect if there's no effect...

The 650 are cases reported because a link was at least suspected. Will not be reported when clearly unrelated.

To put it another way, 650 in millions if even 10% are from Chantix that's an incredibly low suicide rate generally.

These are extra suicides. The baseline suicide rate applies to Chantix users as well.

So how do you know if these are baseline or caused by Chantix?

The unreported cases? Nobody knows, The real problem with case reports. We know real number is higher, but not how much.

No, the reported ones. We know there's a background rate so some of those can't be caused by Chantix. Which ones?

For example, if 100 smokers get lung cancer you can attribute 95 to smoking, 5 to other causes.
