Generally, as the studies get bigger and more controlled, acupuncture becomes indistinguishable from placebo.

no it doesn't. It is too hard to find a decent control. In pragmatic comparative studies it often does better than usual care.

The question is, if the only real effect from CAM is in it's application (not the treatment), why charge for treatments?
