The issue is that they chose an alt med treatment with no evidence over a medical one with a good chance of benefit.

yeah I understand that but she also talks about putting her son through the enormous pain involved with chemo without any guarantee

Nothing is ever guaranteed, but there is good evidence that he'd live significantly longer with the chemo.

My experience has been that dying of cancer is never easy. Would you rather have had 3 months or 5 years?

I'm not saying chemo is a good choice. But I think the majority of people would say 3 months is much much worse.

The issue is also the reason that they refused chemo; they thought that alt med would save the day.

you sure about that? Everything I have read has been regarding incapacitation, quality of life etc

The mother's main argument for refusing chemo was to take him to Asia to get TCM treatment.

They then changed their tune when they went to court, I'd guess on advice from a lawyer who told them it would never fly.
