To be clear, I agree with your takes on this. I’m only saying the published works on this topic made flawed assumptions about the randomness of assignments of countries to the IVM group or non-IVM group as if it were an experiment. So they used ANOVA, for example, to find 1/n
the wonderful effects they claim. Reconstructing their data, I controlled for about anything at the country level and the effects of course disappear. My only point is the research design and methods here are problem enough, yet I see less discussion of that for some reason. 2/n
