It's simply not true to say that, simply because a drug is off-patent, there is no possible way to make money off it

Anyway, the reality is that discussions of profit are a poor substitute for rigorous scientific evaluation. I don't care very much if it makes money as long as it works!

With the current global attention it would be odd to see less money go towards ivermectin. That being said, research funding is very different to stock prices for publicly traded companies

In Brazil, the largest manufacturer of Ivermectin - Vitamedic - has made a tidy profit during the pandemic, increasing its sales of the drug by over 1000%. So much so that it funded a group of right-wing prescribing doctors to the tune of US 175,000 to publish ads in newspapers.
