Depressingly, I reckon that even if we do end up finding a benefit for ivermectin, many people won't use it because the charlatans have been touting it as a miracle cure for COVID-19 for most of a year

I spent some time reading the studies etc a while back. There *may* be some benefit for mild cases. Anything moderate to severe, or requiring hospitalisation, IVM may not be beneficial. But we just don't know what to trust with the studies & data. Looking fwd to the UK study.

They call anyone a pharma shill for so much as suggesting the trials should continue.
-
I think timeline is important. They might be calling them shills now...but asking for bigger trials a year ago when they were using it to treat. Only after the vaccine was delivered did large trials began to appear.

If a modest benefit for ivermectin is found then there are bigger concerns than such trivial intertribal drama like the worse outcomes in developing nations without access to vaccines who could have used it instead of the whole thing being hugely politicised.

I guess that's the hope, though. Shills will presumably have made their money, they'll be on to the next thing, and evidence-based medicine can prescribe it for its' appropriate benefit. It'd be great if that particular story gets chronicled, too!

Harm has been done by both sides on this discussion, those calling it horse paste, missing all the subtler stuff. The way science works seems broken to me, it’s not ultraistic .

If we find a modest benefit, it will be made widely available. Everyone will find out for themselves how effective it is and anyone making widely inaccurate claims will be discredited.

A) you have nothing to worry about. It doesn’t work. And b) 5% will be or has been found with other drugs they aren’t touting. Steroids, fluoxetine etc

And when will we start talking about viral shedding? Reducing mortality is key, but there are other very valuable secondary goals as well.
