Depressingly, I reckon that even if we do end up finding a benefit for ivermectin, many people won't use it because the charlatans have been touting it as a miracle cure for COVID-19 for most of a year

To be fair, if we do find a modest benefit for ivermectin, I doubt that the charlatans who've been promoting it will accept that. They'll just call everyone pharma shills and retreat back to their echo-chamber of fraud

Whether 5% is useful depends on the context right? If you can give it to severe patients and get 5% reduction in mortality, that's useful. If you have to administer it prophylactically for just a 5% benefit, that's insane, we're not doing that when we have a vaccine
-
Food for thought, according to your logic, why vaccinate groups which have less than 5% mortality chance? Also, I believe a 5% is huge, if targetted to specially vulnerable people that 5% may become way higher

Yes. It has attracted a rogues' gallery of absolute nutters.

I'll be extra-critical here and say that a 5% benefit, as nice as it'll be, will have to work a looong time before it can offset the damage caused by the ivermectin story.

I think if people are still using Remdesivir, then hopefully they will have no problem using this cheaper drug with perhaps similar effectiveness? Out of monoclonals, IVM and remdes. From effective to least, would this be correct order on current evidence?
-
Remdesivir showed clinical benefit in a large double-blind randomized trial. All medium to large randomized trials for IVM did not show statistically significant benefit.

People won't trust it because of the "horse paste" smear campaign
