The world’s most cited scientist John Ioannidis is cultured and erudite. He fills me with admiration & envy. https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/science/articles/pandemic-science … is his short & easy read. It summarizes a new science I find profoundly distressing & depressing. Poor us! Two paragraphs I liked are below.pic.twitter.com/nsd4Pq8nag

He writes this⬇️ Yet includes an ad hominem attack on a serious critic (a young researcher) in a published paper. Why not rather debate @GidMK Surely if his data is irrelevant and non-existent then rational debate will prevail. https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1376304539897237508?s=20 …pic.twitter.com/qMhB3p0Fjs

JM, Ioannidis goes into great detail as to why he disagrees with GidMk, it's not "ad-hominem". I can direct you to this if you want. GidMk mentions in one of his papers that Covid lethality is about "50x influenza". In all of 2020, I never saw more blatant misinformation.

Well if he writes that it’s 50x, that certainly disqualifies him from any serious debate.

He did say that, the columnist of "The Guardian". Who ever in the media ever smeared this guy as they did to others? No, they actually hire him despite publishing things like that.

This is what he published. Where does the 50x number come from (it is obviously wrong and not in line this paper)https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10654-020-00698-1 …

The 50x number came from a blog post where I made the point that if you compare death rates with serologically-derived infections as the denominator and confirmed deaths as the numerator (as we do for COVID-19), the number is many times lower for influenza

The point was that we are never comparing apples with apples when it comes to COVID-19 and influenza mortality, but people like to ignore that for the dunks. It's much easier than engaging with the actual argument

Yes it should be noted that the denominator for the often cited .1% Flu IFR (source USA CDC) is symptomatic disease. This study shows almost 50% of infections are asymptomatic which would cut IFR to .05%.https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(21)00141-8/fulltext …
