Some are profiting though. Some monetarily and others with attention. The others, unsure but tribal affiliation seems to be main thing. Doesn't make it a good reason but it's def happening.

Some people are narcissists or otherwise sociopathic? Some high functioning people do things that are just not susceptible to logic and don’t make sense to more “normal” people.

Don't you consider it possible that they saw genuine first hand evidence, and the RCTs will eventually parse out a limited positive effect?

It's plausible, but if there are real benefits you don't commit fraud at this scale so I'm quite skeptical
