This is a) unsurprising and b) horrifying beyond measure And the death toll continues to risehttps://twitter.com/MaxCRoser/status/1434228604666368007 …

The Economist journalists updated their a model of the true death toll of the pandemic, corrected for underreporting. They come to the conclusion that 15.2 million have died, more than 3-times the official toll of 4.6m. This map shows the distribution of the death rate. pic.twitter.com/8ZMdm7LmzY

It is heartbreaking to think of all the people that have died so far, and still more deaths to come, even after vaccines. People who are not vaccinated will most possibly die, sadly as COVID mutates and seems even more severe.

i.e. between 38 and 200 deaths per 100,000? Ok lets take the mid-point 59,500 = 119/100,000 comparable to US (104) and UK (106) and same as Italy (120), higher than Brazil (91) and our meagre morgues are not overwhelmed, no mass cemeteries? #WhiteSaviorism isn’t giving up. https://twitter.com/adrianblomfield/status/1434004846592593923 …

Yes tragic, but the Spanish flu pandemic was worse especially if you consider the smaller population size. We have made at least some progress in a century though not enough

How bad would Covid-19 have been without modern medicine? A common treatment for 1918 influenza was literally toxic

My back of the envelope guess has been 15 million so far, with a pandemic that has many years of life left in it.

According to their calculations Brazil's actual death toll is around 750.000 deaths? Or am I reading it wrong?
