But IIUC, only in doses that are beyond the currently approved range for safe use? I mean, there is probably some margin, but it remains to be seen what that means if you take it continuously (as profylaxe).

Ivermectin did not originate with charlatans. There were people in good faith looking for treatments early in the pandemic.
-
And when it was obvious it did not work (or at least nowhere near as well as the boosters claimed) it was dropped.

It's telling that Quercetin hasn't been touted in the same way. It has a similar evidence base for small benefits as COVID treatment, but instead of a raft of side-effects and risks, it has fairly well-established health benefits when taken regularly.
-
Quercetin is part of every major proph/early treatment protocol and is indeed touted by every proponent of Ivermectin. It, however, isn't facing artificial limitations like Ivermectin is so isn't the topic of controversy.

The thing is, for many of us modest (say 10% improvement) is still better than nothing - especially in the UK where you have to be half dead before you get treated/admitted to hospital. So you can see why even smart people are clutching at anything
-
I'm not sure 10% would be modest. And the hospitalization criteria is lower now in the UK than it was during the winter wave when hospitals were swamped.
