People often say that they've "done their research" on a topic. For some context, I read about 5 scientific papers a day, maybe 1,500 a year, and I can count on my fingers the number of things I've genuinely done my research on
Look, I'd definitely never recommend the brilliant, free service provided by sci-hub so that everyone can read scientific research. I do regularly advocate for better writing in scientific papers to improve readability

My point has much more to do with the gate-keeping of "knowledge" and the elitism of academics/scientists alone thinking we have THE key to the research process. Even if it was "accessible" + everyone got paid to read it, it'd be a terribly limited worldview.
