Maybe it would help if you went ahead and proposed an estimate of the factors that could explain the observed difference, only for the sake of the argument. I don't see any of thr factors you're suggesting making THAT big of a difference.

Socio-economic status can cause differences as big as this, and indeed has done so in other studies. And that's ~just one factor~
