I think in any industry, being 'paid off' is probably rare. What's more likely is that careerists tow the line, parroting certain orthodoxies and attitudes that preserve their 'credibility' and 'reputation' versus potentially risky manoeuvres like telling the inconvenient truth.

totally agree. definitely not trying to suggest that kind of thing is common. Dr's Walker and HealthNerd here are saying things along the lines of "it can't happen", which is an absurd point to attempt to imply or support, for anyone aware of any industry's history.
