"My housemate had Covid and fully recovered after a few days, without having suffered any serious symptoms at all. Now that's happened, I guess all the bad-faith nonsense about Covid being a serious threat will be entirely revised?" (This is how you sound.)

Did people across the world write headlines based on this one housemate? If she wasn't a good example why has she been used as an example for months

I'm not sure why you assume that I have a female housemate. I don't. My point is that suggesting that knowledge of a single example (which could be an outlier) is sufficient to understand a wider phenomenon doesn't seem very scientific. I don't recommend arguing this way.

The she in my tweet was referencing Hubbard. My point is that people have been arguing for a long time that she proves trans athletes have an unfair advantage, and she lost. It was always a bad argument

Folks, you can't measure the presence of an advantage by whether someone wins or not. It has to be measured relative to self. The final performance is the SUM of base level PLUS advantage. So looking only at the final says nothing about the presence of absence of an advantage.

That's just a terribly deceptive argument. The discussion is not about any advantage, but an unfair advantage. If we cared about ~any~ advantage we'd be excluding people for all sorts of reasons

      That’s a terrible strawman tbh

Not at all. It is literally in the IOC rules and judgements - the concern is entirely about what is fair in sport. If no one had an advantage, no one would ever win

And I would contend that you cannot argue that someone has an *unfair* advantage if they do not win. Doping is a perfect example - if it did not make people win more, would we still ban it?

Yes it should still be banned but that is really a flaky argument from you. This New Zealand athlete may not have won in the olympics but another NZ athlete missed the opportunity to compete. There are consequences

That is untrue - the other competitor did not come close to qualifying. But at a more basic level, if you define "unfair" as any modest success for transgender athletes, then your definition of fairness doesn't seem very scientific

Modest success as you posit it is irrelevant. It is either fair or not. The number of transgender athletes may not be many now but that might not always be the case

The unfairness is derived from the fact they have been through male puberty. Higher bone density, larger overall body size etc. This doesn't disappear because you identify as a woman.
