Ivermectin promoters: we haven't spent nearly enough money/time researching repurposed drugs! Reality: we've spent insane billions researching repurposed drugs, most of which haven't worked

"The University of Minnesota is conducting the nation's first randomized trial of [ivermectin]" And it's funded by a charitable foundation, because no one else wanted to pay? Explain to me again how research is overfunded.https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/controversial-ivermectin-added-to-university-of-minnesota-covid-19-drug-trial/ar-AAKfM3C …

Yeah I love how IVM deniers just completely ignore the financial incentives that are arrayed against it.

I'm not sure if IVM works or not. But I just listened to an hour of
@SamHarrisOrg and@EricTopol talking about how the studies aren't good enough because they used only 2,000 people. And now@GidMK wants to tell me we've spent too much money researching it? Fucking maddening.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

You stated IVM advocates claim we haven't spent enough. Then said in reality we've spent billions in vain. What exactly is the implication meant to be?

You missed several crucial words in the tweet I suspect. Think about what "repurposed drugs" actually means and get back to me

Will definitely get back to you, though in the meantime - did you hear about the study done in Mexico for where they gave 70k people IVM compared to a 156k control? 75% reduction in hospitalisation. https://youtu.be/NJSUKDng_Ww He links to the study in the description.

Yeah, but that study wasn't randomized. And we shouldn't do any large randomized trials because we've already spent insane billions on the zero large RCTs already completed.

Oh man, if only someone was calling for increased expenditure on ivermectin research, that'd be really cool right?https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1420155520598503425?s=19 …

Ok well that’s good and I appreciate that - and appreciate the clarification. But this would have been especially helpful 6-8 months back when the FLCCC was trying to raise awareness for IVM when Kory appeared before congress. Also the research community needs funding right?
