Ivermectin promoters: we haven't spent nearly enough money/time researching repurposed drugs! Reality: we've spent insane billions researching repurposed drugs, most of which haven't worked

Let’s be fair. It barely had a purpose to begin with, so hard to call it repurposed. If anything, it’s a drug that’s been looking for a purpose for a while!

Ivermectin is very useful as an anti-parasitic. I don’t know how often it’s used in humans, but it’s really widely used in animals.

Ha! That is a good point. Tocilizumab is also repurposed. So is Dexamethasone, Kaletra, HCQ, budesonide

Whatever happened to dexamethasone or other corticosteroids?
-
They are being used to reduce the inflammation in hospitalized patients. AFAIR, doesn't do much for moderate or mild cases. Can set you up for a nasty fungus infection.

MK4482 is also repurposed. And even though that has Merck behind it we still don't have it approved because actually proving something works is hard and time consuming.
